"Miss Mapp" by E. F. Benson is a comic novel written in 1922. Set in the fictional coastal town of Tilling, it follows Miss Elizabeth Mapp, a tyrannical spinster who presides over her small community from her window perch, spying on neighbors and orchestrating social dominance. Through petty rivalries over dress-making, bridge games, and daylight saving time, Benson crafts a witty portrait of idle 1920s society where gossip reigns supreme and everyday squabbles become epic battles for power.
